Then this internship is for you. Transport & Environment (T&E) is offering an internship within its shipping team for a period of six months, renewable for another six months, starting in October 2023.

Your Role

The successful candidate will work with T&E's shipping team in Brussels, supporting our work on maritime climate policy as part of our work on sustainable fuels, COP28 and port and ferry decarbonisation. Concretely, you will:

  • Work on T&E’s COP28 advocacy work, including drafting concise briefings, supporting data analysis, stakeholder mapping, and outreach to national delegates and event organisation;

  • Contribute to T&E’s work on green lanes, including analysing policy proposals, desk research on EU trade and stakeholder mapping;

  • Support T&E’s work on ferry decarbonisation, including outreach to relevant stakeholders, drafting concise letters, briefings and reports and responding to media interest;

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the team on inter alia LNG campaigning, event organisation and EU legislative issues such as the Innovation Fund and sustainable fuels.


Your profile

Candidates with the following profile are encouraged to apply independent of educational background:

  • Proactive with strong interpersonal skills and very good writing and communication skills;

  • An aptitude for problem solving, attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously;

  • An interest in environmental issues and the EU, a willingness to learn and excellent knowledge of English as T&E’s working language; numerical skills and aptitude in excel are desirable.

  • Willing and able to move to Brussels for the role;

  • Knowledge of how national, EU or UN politics works or climate policy is a bonus.


Practical information

The position is full-time, with a contract running for 12 months (the contract will be renewed after 6 months). The internship is paid according to the Belgian legal framework of “Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle” (remunerated with about € 1500 a month net salary).
